Goals for the New Year

I keep reading that it is better to set goals for the year than to make resolutions. It seems that resolutions are equated with wishes. I guess by setting goals we are more definitive and quantitative. I have never set goals per say , I think my life has just a"happened" or any goals were vague and unformulated.  I have at times exhibited extreme strength of character or self control, but don't think I really set a goal ahead of time. It was just the right thing to do at the time.
I have several goals in mind for this year and have started on some of them.  One big problem is that I usually look at the total picture and want to change everything at once. This can cause one to do nothing, and it generally does just that in my case.  I have some what followed the flylady system for a number of years, and I really see the value of adding a new habit, or goal each month. So I am going to try working on one habit in each of 3 areas of my life for now. As the year progresses, I can add other habits.

So here goes:
On the spiritual side, I have to admit that even though I have studied the Bible quite a lot, I need to improve on the daily Bible study.  Also,I have never actually read the Bible all the way through. Therefore, I am undertaking a program for reading the Bible through in one year. I opted for the Yearly Bible Reading Guide from SearchTV.org.  It is set up by the week.  This allows for more flexibility than a daily Bible Reading.  It also puts you through the New Testament twice in the year.  I actually started with Genesis several weeks ago, and am now in Exodus.

For my physical body, I would hope to continue to lose weight.  To help with the weight loss, as well as to stay in better shape, I plan to exercise at Curves at least 3 times a week. In addition I will ride my bicycle as much as possible.  Weather permitting, I should get in at least two miles 3 to 5 times a week.

My third goal involves our business and personal environment. Since things are in such a shambles here, I am setting a goal of spending one to two hours each day decluttering and  organizing.  It needs to move faster than that, but slow and steady should show progress.

I have so many sub-goals under or along with each one of these that it is hard for me to focus on these three, but  I realize the importance of sticking to these three things and making them habits before moving on or adding more items to the list.

If you have comments or encouragement, or care to share your experiences in these areas, I would love to hear from you.
